Sometimes my characters names are not very important, but in this story, they help describe the people. As the characters told me their names, I checked on the meanings. Amazing how perfect they are!
Time line: Story starts on November 9th
The Humans
Family Members:
Geremy Peter Jokinen – our hero
The name Jeremy means “God will raise up or God will set free.”
Jokinen means “river”
Birthday: March 15th (when the story starts he is 12 years old and in grade 7 of middle school)
Clarence Nathaniel Jakes – hero’s younger half-brother
Clarence means “bright or luminous.”
Jakes means “supplanter” from the Bible story of Jacob and Esau. Jacob tricked his brother, Esau, and took his inheritance.
Birthday: April 27th (when the story starts he is 7 years old and in grade 2)
Perdita Jones – hero’s mother
Perdita is a name invented by Shakespeare for his play, A Winter’s Tale, and means “lost”. Perdita is also a minor satellite of the planet Uranus.
Jones is a very common name meaning son of John.
Hank Jakes – father of Clarence and stepfather to Geremy.
Hank means “ruler of the home”.
Jakes means “supplanter” from the Bible story of Jacob and Esau. Jacob tricked his brother, Esau, and took his inheritance.
Topi Jokinen – Geremy’s birth father
Topi means “hope”.
Maija Aini Itkonen – Geremy’s paternal grandmother (the mother of his father)
Maija means “uncertain”.

Aino (pronounced I know) Kulmala – An agent of SPRING who looks like a female tonttu (two-ton). Assigned to Geremy’s case.
Aino means “the only one”
Kulmala means “corner” as in the corner of a home.
Anu (pronounced I knew) Kulmala – Another agent of SPRING and Aino’s husband. Also looks like a tonttu (two-ton). Assigned to Geremy’s case.
Anu means “grace or favor”.
Annikki – An agent of SPRING who looks like a very fluffy black and white, female Persian cat.
Annikki (a version of Anna) means “mercy”.
Kari – An agent of SPRING who looks like a large, powerful orange cat and always has something to say. Annikki’s life mate.
Kari means “Happy or blissful”.
